Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.

Registration Information

Registration for Flathead Valley Hockey Association opens roughly August 15 of each year.

FVHA's current program is open to girls and boys of all ages and abilities.  The program is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey and the philosophy is to ensure that players have fun while improving their skill level.  Emphasis is placed on skill development, team work and sportsmanship.  

All levels are scheduled for about three hours of ice time/week.  Season game and tournament schedules are set in October for all teams except Mites.  Additional opportunities to host or travel to other rinks for games and/or tournaments  can be added to the schedule and will be organized by the team manager with input from coaches and parents.

12U PeeWees (born 2010-2011) Co-ed

14U Girls (born 2008-2009) - Girls

14U Bantam (born 2008-2009) Co-ed

19U Girls (born 2003-2007)

High School Fusion (born 2003-2008). Note: Players must have a letter of attendance in a high school, be amateurs and cannot play more than 8 consecutive semesters while in grades 9-12. Please see the USA Hockey Annual Guide for details.

 

Documentation

The following forms are required by the registrar before any child will be allowed to skate.  

  • Online registration
  • Payment for the current session (or payment schedule arranged).  Note:  Players will not be added to the team roster and will be ineligible for league play or State without payment in full or payment schedule arranged.  
  • A copy of the child's birth certificate (new players)
  • USA Hockey Registration - entered when you register online 

 

Volunteer Information

In an effort to keep your registration costs low, FVHA needs help with volunteering.

• ALL FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE 25 CREDITS PER PLAYER PER TEAM

• 8U Mite families: 12 credits for 1st session & 13 credits for 2nd session

• 10U Squirt Yeti families:  12 credits for 1st session & 13 credits for 2nd session 

• A credit is typically equal to an hour of work. Tasks with greater expertise or include use of donated equipment will be larger. Tasks completed while watching your child's games will be smaller.

• The credits are available throughout the fiscal year starting July 1

• It is your responsibility to seek volunteer opportunities by talking to your manager or searching in Dibs

The following positions will fulfill ALL required volunteer hours: 

FVHA Board, Team Manager, Head Coach, Registrar & Winter Classic Manager. Please contact the board if you have interest.

Volunteer Commitment: FVHA will hold a $250 check (un-deposited) until the end of the season. Checks will be deposited for unfulfilled hours and returned for those successfully volunteering.

Volunteer Hours Buy-Out: During the first two weeks of the season you have the option to buy out your hours with the above check or go to the Store. The buyout fees are $250.00 per player ($125 per session of 8U and 10U). Please inform your team manager.

All volunteers must get a USA Hockey registration number (free).

For each position that requires interaction with minor children or being on-ice, such as (but not limited to) penalty box, locker room monitor, coaching, etc. you must take SafeSport training.

Scholarships

Families intending to apply for scholarships should register online, pay the deposit fee and mail their application and request to FVHA so it is received no later than October 10 of the current year.  Mailing:  FVHA, PO Box 2205, Kalispell, MT 59903 .  For scholarship questions you can contact at the link below.

PARENTS AND ATHLETES

Parents and athletes need to manage their SportsEngine accounts to ensure they get the most out of their Flathead Valley Hockey Association experience during each sporting season. ESSENTIAL PARENT HOW-TO'S

Adding an additional guardian

In many instances, more than one parent or guardian needs to be in the loop with a child's sports life. Using the mobile app, you can add additional guardians to an account. Guardians can 1) View games and events 2) RSVP to games and events 3) Send and receive messages to coaches and team members 4) participate in team chat

Adding a Mobile Phone

Once you've created your account, add your mobile phone so you can receive text messages from your team manager or coach.

Enabling Text Messaging

Now that you have your mobile phone on your account, make sure you enable text messaging and any other notifications.

Forwarding Athlete Messages
